1. You are responsible for your VPS
You have full root access, so you are responsible for everything that runs on or is sent from your VPS, including by anyone you give access to and by software that gets compromised. Keep the system updated and protect your credentials.
2. Not allowed
- Sending email. Outbound connections to ports 25, 465 and 587 are blocked on every VPS. Do not try to work around this block (for example through relays or tunnels used to send mail).
- Cryptocurrency mining, including mining disguised as other workloads.
- Scanning and attacks: port or vulnerability scanning of networks you do not own or have written permission to test, brute-force login attempts, denial-of-service attacks, exploiting or spreading malware, phishing, and botnet command-and-control.
- Proxies and VPNs for abuse: open proxies, and reselling or offering proxy or VPN access that is used for spam, fraud, attacks or to hide other abuse. A private proxy or VPN for yourself is fine.
- Illegal content and activity under UK law or the law where the content is aimed, including child sexual abuse material, terrorist content, infringing copies of copyrighted works and the sale of illegal goods.
- Spoofing source addresses or using IP addresses that were not assigned to your VPS.
3. What we may do
If we see or are told about abuse, Vestra may suspend the VPS (power it off and lock it in Vestra Console) while we investigate, and terminate it for serious or repeated breaches. Where we can, we tell you first and give you a chance to fix the problem; for attacks, illegal content or anything that harms other customers or our network we may act immediately. We do not inspect the contents of your VPS during normal operation; we act on network signals and reports.
4. Fair use of shared resources
vCPUs are shared between the virtual servers on a host. Sustained use that degrades other customers may be limited.
5. Reporting abuse
Report abuse from a Vestra address to [email protected] with the IP address, time (with time zone) and evidence such as logs.
